A Relation Born

Starts on the curve of a smile
Ends on the corner of a scowl
May brew over a cup of coffee
May begin on a train journey

A relation born every moment
A birth with no rhyme or reason

A pat can smooth it
A spat can kill it
A helping hand can sweeten it
A fist of fury can sour it

Grows from fertile soil of emotional needs
Weeds from murky swamp of pecuniary intention

Some root deep into you
Some rot without effort
Some float in the flimsy film of society
Some flower into timeless ties

Relations stringed together with bonds of sacred ties
Relations not christened by any society

Take eternity to build
Yet moments to lose
Founded in a glance
Yet last a lifetime

Relations which need oiling to keep wheels moving
Relations which stay pure despite rusting of time

Come alive from legal compulsions
Face death from human ego
Stem from human needs
Wither at momentary outbursts

A changing kaleidoscope of relations
First born of a mother’s womb
Lives beyond ashes of funeral pyre
